-might o may?-

-might o may?-
Nota d'uso
Might o may si usano in genere in contesti molti simili, però tra loro ci sono alcune differenze importanti da notare. Entrambi possono essere usati per esprimere la possibilità che qualcosa sia vero o che accada in futuro: The painting might (o may) be a fake, il dipinto potrebbe essere un falso; però might rispetto a may si usa per descrivere qualcosa che è meno probabile: He may come early – he often does, potrebbe arrivare presto – lo fa spesso; He might come early, but I don't think he will, potrebbe arrivare presto, ma non credo lo farà. Sia might che may sono usati per fare richieste, per chiedere e dare un permesso, però might è molto più formale di may: May we sit down? possiamo sederci? O con maggior cautela: Might we sit down? May (ma non might) si usa anche in espressioni benauguranti formali: May the married couple be very happy! possano gli sposi essere felici!
